Where'd My Mojo Go?

I'm having trouble, folks. These blogs posts just ain't rolling off the fingers like they did in days gone by.

After perusing my old blog (which, former followers, is still up if you care to peek at it), I am suffering from a case of low blogger self-esteem. I'm boring. Even I yawn as I read this blog. How the heck did I have so much to say about so many things back then? And why am I struggling to say anything remotely entertaining or humorous now? Is this what happens to a woman after she has a child? Do those little buggers render us all boring?

Maybe it's because there are topics that I want to spout off about but that might be a)too personal; b)too professionally risky; or c)offensive to certain readers (if anyone's actually reading this). Methinks in my old age perhaps I've learned that putting it all out there in the blogosphere (or cyberspace) can end up biting you in the ass.

Speaking of asses, nothing like a few hundred scantily-clad Olympians to make the rest of us feel like we're sitting on lumps of lard:

For the record, I couldn't find a single image of a male Olympian's butt; thus, the Ryan-Lochte-half-naked-on-the-couch photo. Speaking of Ryan Lochte (boy, I've really gone off on a tangent here, haven't I?), what a tool. Like many other women across the globe, I drooled all over myself when I caught a glimpse of him on a magazine cover a few months ago. Then I read up on him: He wore a grill

(I had to look up a photo because I was unfamiliar with the term but not the device) to a medal ceremony, and he says, "Jeah" when he thinks something is super duper cool. Not only that, but both he and his mother have bragged that he's all about one-night stands when he's training.

Excuse me while I put the saliva back in my mouth and save it for someone more worthy.

My favorite Olympian? It's a tie: Missy Franklin and Carmelita Jeter. First, Franklin. What a doll. She just seems so genuinely bowled over by her experience. I detect no arrogance or sense of entitlement. She's just a teenager who swam her heart out and won gold.

Next, Jeter.

All she could say when she was interviewed after one of her events was, "I just feel blessed to be here. I'm just taking it all in." That's the spirit, girl.

Off to bed. Maybe some sleep will help me find my mojo.

  1. I believe Lochte also talked about peeing in the Olympic pool during warm-ups.

I mean, okay, people do that, and I'm sure that people who spend as much time in a pool as he does do it a LOT, but do you need to talk about it on a world-wide stage?

Maybe there should be some sort of special don't-sound-stupid coaches involved, as well as the athletic ones.

  2. I still love reading your blog. I too found that when I stopped running and my life involved a serious relationship, there was less I felt comfortable blogging about. I think that's normal. Knowing you, I'm sure you'll find lots to say :)
